Whether or not you're a poker or blackjack star you can have some fun with your buds with some simple drinking card games. While beer pong and flip cup are all about hand eye coordination, or rather reaching the limits of such skills, most drinking card games give you a chance to use your brain, then again some are so simple its left up to chance - either way change it up and have a good time.

Here are two popular drinking card games you might want to give a try:

Asshole

Asshole is a card game similar in some ways to the popular game, bullshit (fitting we know). It can be played in an indefinite number of rounds, has a simple strategy, numerous variations, and can even be played sober and still be fun, if that's your thing. The game requires 1 deck of card and works best with 3-5 people, though you can add more decks to get more players. In the first round, everyone starts even. Use any method you want to select the first player (Roshambo, flip top cards, etc). The game continues with each player going around in order. A player puts down one or more of the same numbered card (2 through Ace; for example one 3, two fives, four jacks, etc.). The next player in the rotation must then put down the same quantity or more of the same number that is the same or higher (for example if the first player puts down two 5s, the next player can put down two 5s, two 8s, three 9s, etc.). If you cannot beat the previous players hand, you must skip. If all player skip and play returns to the last person to put down card, they can "go low" and put down anything they want, usually trying to get rid of their lowest cards which would otherwise be hard to get rid of later. You can also throw in wilds in the mix - when you play a wild you can immediately get down and go low. Every time that you skip, you take a drink. As the game progress, the first person to get rid of all their cards is the President, the next the Vice President, Third the secretary, and fourth the asshole. You can use any ranks you want and adjust for the number of player, but after the cards are dealt for the next round, the last player out has to give the top player his two best card and the top player can give the lowest player any 2 cards they want. The VP exchanges one card in a similar fashion with second to last player out. If there are more than four people, nothing happens to the people in the middle. You can also have the lower ranks take drinks as you want. You can play rounds indefinelty this way with reranking after each round. You are really free to add in any rules you want, or enjoy any variation you find elsewhere on the net.

Queens

Queens is a super easy game to play. There is a quite a bit less thinking involved and is a little less competitive than asshole, but it is still a party classic. You can play with anywhere between 4-8 people. The game starts with a shuffle of the deck and then all the cards are laid out face down. Going around in order, you pick up cards and take action based on the card picked. You can work our your own variations, but here is my standard set of rules:

  • Ace: Make up a rule. You can make up any rule you want. One of my absolute favorites is the following: you must pick up the cards with your non-dominant hand or drink. This is hard to remember and unnatural for most people, so you can get them everytime.
  • King: Your the King baby, choose someone to drink
  • Queen: Everyone take a drink. Say a toast and make it count.
  • Jack: You drink alone... with nobody else
  • 10: The person two to your right drinks
  • 9: The person two to your left drinks
  • 8: All players drink
  • 7: Lucky you, you can pass your next drink to anyone of your choice
  • 6: Play duck, duck, goose. The loser (you or the goose) has to drink
  • 5: The person to your right drinks
  • 4: The person to your left drinks
  • 3: You take a drink and chose two other people to dirnk
  • 2: You and one other person take a drink

There are plenty of other games out there that you can try or maybe you can make up your own. Let us know your favorite on Facebook or on Twitter @BeerNewb.
